One of the delights of small towns in Iowa is that their business districts often surround town squares. The square enhances the beauty of the downtown, brings shopping and dining establishments together, and provides a gathering place for townsfolk to interact and socialize.

A planned feature of the new Prairie Trail development is a traditional town square surrounded by a vibrant village. To complement the already active Ankeny business and park districts, the new village is designed to offer residents and visitors a place to shop, dine, mingle, and enjoy the outdoors.

The village is a key component of the blend of relaxation, activity, and convenience that makes the Prairie Trail community unique. Open green space, shops, restaurants, and a setting for social events and activities are planned. Plans also include regional and national merchants, a lakeside park, and an amphitheater as well as convenient parking. The idea is to create an intimate destination where residents and visitors can spend leisure time with their families, take a break from work, and pick up a special gift. It fits right in with Ankeny’s friendly attitude and Iowa’s small-town sensibility.
